Who We Are
Matthew Pearlman, MSW, LCSW
Owner/Clinical Director
Hello! I'm Matthew Pearlman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving children, adolescents, teens, and adults in Sterling, IL, and the surrounding areas. I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) from Lindenwood University and Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Saint Louis University.
I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations, including pediatric oncology, incarcerated individuals, older adults, and early childhood clients. I'm incredibly passionate about helping clients navigate challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, and life transitions, and I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation of healing.
From Kid Journalist To Clinical Psychotherapist
Before I ever sat across from clients in a therapy room, I spent years listening to stories — asking thoughtful questions, noticing patterns, and learning what motivates people. That skill set began early. From the age of 10 through 24, I worked as a journalist, interviewing some of the most recognizable names in music, sports, and pop culture.
Over the years, I conducted interviews with artists and public figures including Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, Sarah McLachlan, Kelsea Ballerini, Hozier, Olympic champion Usain Bolt, NBA star Kevin Durant, and figures such as Carole Baskin, among many others. Throughout my teenage years, I published three books featuring these interviews, documenting not just fame, but the human stories behind it.
Those early experiences eventually led me to a different — yet deeply connected — calling. Journalism taught me how to listen without judgment, how to hear what’s being said beneath the surface, and how every person has a story shaped by their experiences. Those same skills are at the heart of good therapy.
My work today is still about stories — but now it’s about helping people understand their own and learn how to rewrite parts of it in a healthier, more empowering way.
Outside of the office, I'm a family man! Love spending time with my wife, Eryn, and our two beautiful dogs, Otto and Carly (see below), as well as golfing, chess, and kayaking. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward growth and well-being.
